Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park – Serengeti Plains

  • Non game-viewing travel time: 6 hours
  • Distance: 205 km
Following the morning breakfast, we’ll be heading towards the Serengeti National Park through the beautiful high lying farmlands of Karatu and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands of Karutu behind, we head towards the heart of wild Africa, the Serengeti National Park. Its plains covering more than 10,000 sq km seem to run endlessly as far as your eyes can see. The central part of the park which is known as Seronera area will be our target destination. This territory is considered the richest wildlife habitats in the park which also features the Seronera River. It is a reliable year-round valuable source of water for the wildlife and therefore attracts a large proportion of them. Day 3: Serengeti Plains

On day 3 of the tour, hop in for a hot air balloon ride and be one of the only fortute people to glide over the Serengeti plains with an excellent birds-eye view from the top (available at supplementary cost by pre-arrangement). You’ll be flying silently above the bushes, across the rivers and small villages while spotting wildlife and enjoying the scenic view. Upon landing, you’ll be served with hot breakfast and another game drive will follow into the Sogore River Circuit. It is located in the southern plains of the Seronera River which is an excellent spot for viewing lions, Thomson gazelles, ostriches, cheetahs, and topis. There’s a visitor center which is not far from the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and other public campsites. It is well worth a visit and you’ll be taken there after the game drive. This is a nice designed tourist center with shops selling information leaflets and maps of the area and other traditional souvenirs. Food and snack shops are also available. A picnic lunch can be arranged in here in the shade of one of the many giant acacia trees. In the afternoon after lunch, we’ll follow the Kopjes circuit which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes. It attracts significant number of lion and some large cobras. These kopjes are weathered granite outcrops which can be found scatterred around the plains. Most of these are miniature ecosystems which have valuable water sources in the pools beneath the rock. After rain, the waters get deposited in the pool. This makes the kopjes the go-to spot for animals for drinking water, especially in the dry season when there’s a water scarcity.
